Come and join us at FH Westküste and study Green Process Engineering
- Would you like your degree programme to include a high proportion of practical exercises, laboratory work, project work and field trips?
- Would you like to take lessons from lecturers with industry experience and up-to-date practical knowledge?
- Would you like to establish close ties with companies and work on joint development projects while you are still studying?
- You can expect individual support during your studies, lectures and seminars in small groups, and personal contact with your lecturers.
Short and sweet:
This is what you can expect during your studies
Green Process Engineering is essentially concerned with the transformation of industry towards greater sustainability.
Battery and rechargeable battery technologies, energy storage, climate-friendly production and the diverse use of hydrogen, renewable energies and closed resource cycles are the core topics of this degree programme, whereby you will qualify for the development department or, as a process engineer, monitor the practical implementation and energy and resource-optimised operation.
In an exciting scientific and technical degree programme, you will learn all the relevant basics and their applications. You are the specialist when it comes to innovative processes such as CO2 capture and utilisation, green molecules and the refinement of renewable energies into sustainable products and sustainable production. You will learn what is already feasible today, utilise the dynamic environment on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein to launch your career in the field of process engineering for new sustainable processes and get the energy and resource transition underway.
And for even more flexibility, this degree programme is also planned to be offered as a dual option!

Study structure
In the basics, you will be prepared for everything else and learn chemistry and thermodynamics as well as electrical engineering and computer science. Here you will also meet fellow students from other degree programmes. Data science and machine learning are megatrends and also important fundamentals that are taught across all degree programmes. In the third and fourth semesters, in addition to the exciting process engineering subjects, organic chemistry and green technology, you will also study automation technology and the practical partner module, which will provide you with important information from professional practice if you are not already studying a dual degree programme. Alternatively, there are optional modules with which you can broaden your horizons. After the practical semester, the specialisations in fuel cells, electrolysis, battery technology and process engineering get down to business.
What makes the degree programme sustainable?
Renewable energies will be the basis of the future energy system, life and economy. In order to store renewable electricity and manufacture products from it, we need specialists like you who know how electrochemical and material storage systems work and how molecules can be built from energy and the basic building blocks water and carbon dioxide and processed into products. You know which raw materials are needed and how they are extracted, reused and processed in an environmentally friendly way. And if these methods do not yet exist, you will find them and make them a reality. This is how you create innovation and implement economic cycles that are sustainable.
Practical semester
As an engineer, it is important to prepare yourself for a technical working environment. With us, you have the opportunity to gain important practical experience during your studies. This not only pays off for your future career, but also makes it easier for you to enter professional life. The practical semester is the perfect complement to the numerous laboratory courses at the West Coast UAS.
The degree programme suits you if
- You are interested in technical innovations and issues
- You like to apply theoretical knowledge immediately in practice
- You can work independently and are not a stranger to initiative
- You can assert yourself even in turbulent phases
- You are a real team player who attaches great importance to good communication
By the way: The bachelor's degree programme in Green Process Engineering (Process Engineering) includes a compulsory internship of at least 20 weeks to develop your technical skills and give you the opportunity to prepare yourself optimally for the demands of the labour market. The semester can be completed in a company or at a partner university.
